Airway Science for Kids (ASK) exposes upper elementary school youth to extracurricular math, science and computer technology to promote academic achievement, inspire personal growth and development, and spark career interest in aviation, high tech, high growth industries. The program is designed to assist the child’s early math, science and computer technology learning for success through the middle and high school grades.

Boeing Manufacturing Tech Prep Internship Program Tech Prep is a summer student development program for high school juniors who have their eye on a future in aerospace manufacturing. The Boeing Company management and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers are proud to be sponsors of this program in the Portland, Oregon metro area.
Christian Culinary Academy is an inspirational 1-year licensed culinary career college in Cannon Beach, Oregon providing a place for Christian students to learn the skills necessary to enable them to enter the industry with confidence and cope with the demands of their chosen profession while acting as effective witnesses. We have dormitories, great industry placement opportunities, and scholarships available for our students. Please contact them for more information about their school and to request a tour. In March they hold an international cooking event that is a good time to check out their school.
Engineer's Week Banquet, Field Trip and Career Fair. This annual program held during national engineer's week in mid-February is sponsored by the local engineers and engineering associations of Portland. The day's events include a field trips to a local engineering facilites, a career fair, then a banquet with a guest speaker on engineering The cost is free for high school sophomores and juniors. Announcements for the current year's program go out in December. Sign ups occur in early January. Spaces fill fast. Homeschoolers are welcome to apply directly to the engineer banquet director.

The Fort Vancouver Youth Interpretative School and Dame School are designed to expose students between the ages of 9 and 18 to the handwork and living skills of the 19th century. Fort Vancouver staff and volunteers help young people to develop their ability to relate the past to visitors who come to the historic site.

Greater Hillsboro Area Chamber of Commerce School to Work Programs provide job shadows, guest speakers, site visits, and internships through volunteers from the business community within the area. A number of opportunities have been made available to homeschoolers, contact them directly. Applications for various internships have various deadlines over the school year generally ending in April.

High Tech U sponsored by Semi U provides a 3 day workshop of highly interactive, fun experiments. A primary goal is to provide positive exposure to math, science and technology modules that students might otherwise feel unprepared to explore. The program also delivers sessions on educational pathways and career planning in the technology industry. Homeschoolers are welcome to apply. Workshop times vary but are usually in the spring. OHSU Volunteer Opportunities in Health Volunteers work to positively impact the pediatric, adult or geriatric patient experience by visiting and spending quality time with patients and families. Additionally, they support staff with non-medical tasks while expanding their own knowledge of the hospital setting. Most opportunities require age 16 and older but a few are open to 14 and older.

Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) provides voluteer opportunities as well as science camps and classes. In particular, check out the Teen Alliance program. (Eastside Portland)

Oregon Civil Air Patrol Cadet Program (CAP) is designed to inspire the country's youth to become leaders and good American citizens through their interest in aerospace. Cadets work their way through a series of achievements by completing activities including search and rescue, first aid, CPR, radio communications, summer encampments, cadet officer school, flight school, survival training, model rocketry, and more. Provides eligibility for national or international activities, scholarships, or advancement in the military (should they desire to enlist). Various squadrons located in our area.

Oregon Zoo provides a variety of volunteer opportunities from Zoo Ambassador to Zoo Teen to college internships and job shadows.For more information about these programs, visit the Oregon Zoo's website (West Portland)

Philip Foster Farm provides volunteer opportunities for teens as well as adults. Positions include historical re-enactment apprenticeships, tour guides, and event helpers, grounds keeping, and more. See their volunteer page for a complete list. Contact them for eligibility, historical clothing requirements, and availability. Letters of reference are given for some positions for future schools and employers. (East Metro--Eagle Creek/Estacada)

Providence Health & Services School Outreach Program provides a variety of health career exploration events and opportunities for students of all ages (generally junior and senior high school) throughout the school year. Space is limited, so register early (Various Locations)

Saturday Academy Apprenticeship in Science and Engineering. The ASE Program matches high school freshmen, sophomores, and juniors with scientists and engineers for an 8-week summer apprenticeship in a professional, scientific or engineering environment through local sponsoring companies. Application and selection takes place January through April. TeenPact Leadership Schools provides an annual program that allows teens to tour their local capital, meet legislators, and take part in workshops. TeenPact of Oregon usually occurs the first part of April in Salem. Workshops vary in length, some require multiple days. Spots fill fast. Register early! (Salem)
