Academies and Co-Ops and Tutoring Houses
Homeschool co-ops tend to change what is available from year to year, and some disband as students grow up. Notably, the prior Covid lock downs interrupted many groups which are slowly restarting, so please check the organization's website for the most current information. Also check Oceanetwork's Find a Homeschool Support Group page for co-ops and organizations listed in your area. These listed below have been the most stable over the years.
Basic Skills/New Covenant Christian Academy has been providing Christian educational support and encouragement to the home schooling community for over 25 years. Basic Skills provides tutoring, homeschool counseling, a private school high school diploma program, elementary school TRAKS program, and onsite classes, as well as annual testing. Basic skills is a non-accredited and non-government regulated academy to retain personal and religious freedom over curriculum choices. (Oregon City and Beaverton locations)
Blueberry House Tutoring LLC provides one-on-one tutoring (including those with special needs), summer classes, on site classes for fee, and a full academy program. (Milwaukie)
Classical Conversations equips parents to teach. Classes are led by trained parent-tutors who model the classical tools of learning and biblical worldview. Chapters may include Foundations (K4-6th grade), Essentials (English grammar, writing, and math drills), and Challenge (7th & 8th grade). There are various chapters in the Portland metro. You can find more information about a chapter near you on the Classical Conversations national website.
COACH of Washington County is a coalition of Christian homeschool parents providing a generous amount of meet ups, group events, spelling bees, and general support to members. Please see their website for current event and membership information.
Cor Deo Academy is a private Christian hybrid school sponsored by SW Hills Baptist Church. Classes are held Monday, Wednesday, Friday in various subjects; Tuesday and Thursday students study under the parent's supervision at home. Homeschoolers are welcome to take 1 or more classes. Classes generally range from elementary through middle school ages. High school has disbanded. (Beaverton)
Firmly Planted Westside provides a co-op environment for Christian homeschooling families in the westside metro (Tigard) area.
Firmly Planted Resource Center provides a co-op environment for Christian homeschool families in Vancouver, Washington, area.
Firmly Planted grew out of First Choice Homeschool Ministries. Though Firmly Planted no longer charters co-ops, they do provide resource materials to start your own co-op. See the Firmly Planted website for more information about those resources.
First Choice Central Portland is currently listed as temporarily suspended. It has been a Christian cooperative reaching out to the homeschool community in the Portland area. Members come together for parent-led classes as well as other support group activities on a regular basis. Serving: Portland Metro Area including: Quarry, Graham, Montavilla, Russellville, Powellhurst, Hazelwood, Hollywood, Laurelhurst and surrounding areas. First Class Clackamas Teens is a Christ centered academic community for homeschool teens. We offer Monday classes with experienced, engaging tutors, and monthly events and field trips. (Damascus area)
First Class East Gresham is a Home School Co-op ministry chartered from First Class Homeschool Ministries. We exist to encourage, support and build up the local community of homeschool families, reaching out in the name of Christ. Meeting: Gresham, Oregon area. Serving: Sandy, Boring, Corbett, Gresham, Troutdale, Fairview, East Portland, Wood Village and surrounding areas.
The Home School Connection seeks to provide a setting for home schooling families to come together and establish connections with one another in order to draw strength, encouragement and a fresh love of learning. Our foremost aim is to put God first in all that we do so that His love will be manifest within and through us. HSC offers chapel, enrichment classes for students age 5 years through high school and academic classes for students in grades 7 through 12. We also desire to connect home schooling families with other home schooling families in order to create community. (Hillsboro) This group appears to be disbanded. Life@Home is a Christian homeschool community that provides a place for members to ask questions, share ideas, get to know one another, and promote events of interest to homeschoolers. Members are encouraged to initiate activities, classes, workshops, field trips, Mom’s nights, etc, and invite L@H families to join them.

Masters School of Art is a Christian art center that provides courses from 4th grade through college level. They have both eastside and westside programs. Check their website for available classes in various performing arts. Sadly this center seems to be closed as the website and phone number seem disconnected. Southeast Christian Homeschool Community is a group of homeschool families who gather in the Portland, Oregon metro area for "Friday School" classes, park days, field trips, moms' outings, and anything else member families are inspired to facilitate (Eastside and Damascus)

Taylord4Kidz provides private Christian educational classes to supplement your homeschool in reading, writing, math and STEM. Tutoring also provided. (Beaverton location).
Village Home is a learning community providing academic and social enrichment and resources for families who choose to home educate. Begun as a charter-type school, in 2006 VH severed ties to the public school system and became a for-tuition, hybrid co-op and secular private school. They have a large number of educational classes and activities for purchase. (Various locations)

Distance Learning

Abeka has provided distance learning for homeschooling families through correspondence and video courses for years. An accredited private Christian school, as well as publisher, it provides a full academy as well as individual courses and individual curriculum for purchase. Most Christian homeschooling families have used an Abeka book or two at some point in their schooling.

Alpha Omega is another pioneering Christian publisher and accredited private academy. Families may enroll full time in the academy or purchase individual courses or individual published curriculum. Alpha Omega is especially well known for its computer based curriculum through Switched On Schoolhouse and its paper Life Pacs. It also now has web-browser accessible curriculum.

Bob Jones University Press is also one of the original founders of private Christian school materials brought to homeschooling families. It too publishes its own curriculum which is well known to the homeschooling community. BJUP does not provide a full academy, per se, but rather sells individual distance learning and video courses for a variety of subjects.

Calvert Education provides fully accredited, private k-12 distance learning for homeschooling families. A well established correspondence school, originally used by diplomatic families oversees, it now provides fully online courses. You can enter the academy or purchase individual courses. A number of homeschooling families have been happy with Calvert correspondence school. Originally Catholic, but is now considered a secular school program.

Christian Liberty Press (CLASS) has been a pioneer in homeschool distance learning since the 1970's. Academy students receive a private school diploma accredited by the National Association of Private Schools. CLP also publishes and sells individual curriculum. Purchase full academy admittance or individual courses or individual curriculum. Many homeschooling families have been familiar with CLP's published materials and distance learning over the years.

Connections Academy is public school at home through online distance learning. Your student is considered enrolled in public school unlike private distance programs which Oregon considers homeschooling. Connections Academy is free, or rather tax payer funded, with subsequent government oversight for enrollment and attendance requirements. Some families have liked having their children in a more self-paced public school at home. Others felt it was too rigid as to pace, learning style, curriculum choices, and oversight. It is an all in academy. No individual classes may be purchased.

Khan Academy provides free individual courses presented through online video sessions. Secular but thorough in presentation. Most would consider Kahn a supplement rather than a full curriculum. Many homeschoolers have especially enjoyed their help in upper math and science courses.

The Potter's School offers live, online academic courses for grades 4 through early college. Courses require logging in at a set time and day to participate in a virtual class. Christian based. Individual courses for many subjects are available including high school AP classes. High school diploma and transcript program are also available as accredited by North Atlantic Regional High School.
